SoundCue Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 24, 2026

SoundCue works locally on your Mac. It has no account system, analytics SDK, or advertising, and operates no server of its own. SoundCue does not collect or upload your audio, preferences, or Bluetooth information.

Audio

With your permission, SoundCue reads audio buffers to calculate input and output levels. It does not save audio recordings or send audio to a server. Metering stops when its controls are no longer visible. The onboarding system-audio permission step briefly starts and stops capture to request macOS consent. macOS manages microphone and system-audio permissions, which you can change in System Settings.

Local preferences

SoundCue stores device identifiers and their priority order, along with onboarding completion, in macOS preferences. These identifiers allow your preferences to survive device reconnections. A local preference records whether alert sounds should follow the selected output. Preferences are not uploaded.

Turning on Open at Login registers SoundCue as a macOS login item through the system's ServiceManagement framework. SoundCue reads the current state from macOS.

Bluetooth

SoundCue reads locally available Bluetooth battery information from macOS when supported. The direct-distribution version may query the macOS system_profiler utility for this information. SoundCue does not upload the response.

Updates and distribution

Mac App Store version: Apple distributes purchases and updates through the Mac App Store. This version does not use Sparkle or contact GitHub to check for updates. Apple's privacy policy applies to App Store transactions and services.

Direct-distribution version: SoundCue uses the open-source Sparkle framework for update checks. Previously released builds are configured to retrieve an update feed from fernandobelotto.github.io and release archives from github.com over HTTPS. Public GitHub distribution is currently suspended while the next release is prepared, so those downloads may be unavailable.

Update requests include ordinary connection information, such as your IP address and a user agent naming the app and Sparkle versions. SoundCue does not send a system profile, audio-device information, or persistent device identifiers. GitHub's privacy policy applies to requests to GitHub. In direct-distribution builds, you can disable automatic checks using More actions → Check for Updates Automatically.

Diagnostics

SoundCue writes operational events to macOS unified logging. These include software versions, temporary numeric audio-device IDs, operation status, and metering session IDs. SoundCue does not log audio samples, device names, or persistent device identifiers. Error descriptions are marked private.

Optional diagnostic collection may include Apple framework logs, which follow Apple's privacy behavior and may contain details about your environment. Review collected files before sharing them. Logs are shared only if you choose to share them.

Third-party services

Apple's privacy policy and GitHub's privacy policy explain their respective services. This policy describes the SoundCue app; third-party storefronts and websites have their own privacy practices.
